Why JPEC
”If live performance is scary, it is also uniquely exciting: once it’s bitten you, you never get rid of it. Nor do you want to; for you come to believe that if you get it all right, you will be capable of virtually anything. That is what drives me, and I know it will always do so.”
– Dr Oscar Peterson
Toronto has been home to successful, world-class jazz venues such as The Colonial Tavern, Town Tavern, Bourbon Street, George's Spaghetti House, Top o’ the Senator and the Montreal Bistro, which have featured some of the most talented and world-renowned jazz artists including Bill Evans, Ella Fitzgerald, Wynton Marsalis, Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Carmen McRae, Terence Blanchard, Roy Hargrove, Diana Krall and Oscar Peterson. The Jazz Performance and Education Centre is seeking not to replace but to enhance the city’s current jazz programming – which includes regular jazz programming at The Rex Hotel, Gate 403, Chalker's and Dominion on Queen, among others – with a sophisticated, year-round jazz venue.
